The final drive is an important part of a mobile excavator. In this blog, we explain how a Liebherr final drive works and what you need to know if it needs to be replaced. A final drive is located on loading shovels, mobile excavators, caterpillar excavators and bulldozers.
A final drive transfers the power from the drive motor to the wheels or tracks. It consists of various internal gears that increase the drive motor's power.
Over time, a final drive will wear out. When the gears are worn, play between the gears develops. Ideally, everything should fit together seamlessly. Wear becomes noticeable if you can move the bearings and gears back and forth by hand.
We advise replacing the entire final drive in case of wear. If only a single part is replaced, it will wear out very quickly. This is because the new part will soon wear out when older parts are already a bit worn.
A Liebherr final drive will wear out with regular use. The longer this continues, the quicker a big movement can cause gears to wear out. Timely replacement of the final drive is crucial to prevent downtime.
Every final drive that comes into the Grovema workshop is dismantled. Because we check all parts for wear, you can always be sure of a properly working final drive when you buy it through our online shop.
