Liebherr long block and short block: what are the differences?

We offer various Liebherr engines in our webshop, such as complete engines that can be used straight away, but also long blocks and short blocks. But what are the differences? We have listed them for you.

Liebherr short block

A short block is a crankcase containing all the moving parts inside. Such as: crankshaft, camshaft, liners, pistons, connecting rods, bearings and gears. Various engine configurations can be built with a short block as base. The attachments determines the configuration of the engine and for which machine it is suitable. The main attachment parts are: distribution housing, flywheel house + flywheel, turbo, injection pump, air intake and exhaust.  Did you know that with a short block, you can also build engines for Liebherr telescopic cranes?

Why choose a long block or a short block?

They can be a good choice to continue using parts of your current engine and only replace the short block. This saves you costs. Whether you opt for a long block or short block depends on the condition of the cylinder heads.

Liebherr crankcase

If you want to build the engine yourself, it is best to start with a crankcase. This is the basis of the engine, without rotating parts.
