Your Liebherr will last longer with these maintenance tips

It goes without saying that you want your Liebherr machine to last. There are some simple things you can do to keep your machine in tip-top condition. Read our five tips below.

1. Drain water from the fuel tank weekly

Fuel tanks become hot during use, which results in condensation. Eventually, this water will cause damage to your machine, such as growth of algae or bacteria in the tank. Because water is denser than diesel, precipitated condensation always pools at the bottom of the tank. This condensation is easy to drain using the tap at the bottom of the fuel tank. Our advice is to do this weekly in case of heavy-duty use of your machine.

2. Check the hoses, motor rubbers and wire harness of your Liebherr on a monthly basis

Regularly checking the machine is also important. Walk around the machine to see if there are any signs of wear.

Water hoses

Check that the water hoses are still flexible. If they are dried out and hard, they must be replaced.

Oil hoses

If you can see signs of sweating on an oil hose, you will need to replace it as soon as possible, because this is a sign that the hose is about to give out.

Motor rubbers

Check the condition of the motor rubbers. Can you see cracks? Or is the rubber perishing? Change the rubbers as soon as possible. This will also reduce vibration during use.

Wire harness

Check how the wire harness is running. Does it rub anywhere, or can you see signs of wear? WIth regular checks, you can prevent the wire harness from actually breaking and having to be entirely replaced.

3. Check the lubrication system

Older Liebherr models required manual use of a grease gun on the grease points to keep them lubricated. Nowadays, the lubrication system automatically takes care of this. Although this system has a central lubrication container, it is still important to regularly check the levels in the lubrication container. Make sure the lubrication container is always full and check that the entire system is still functioning properly. Any parts that have not been properly lubricated, are likely to wear faster.

4. Regularly clean your machine

A clean machine is not only good for the appearance. it also improves its lifespan. Defects like a sweating hose or a lubrication point that does not function properly are much easier to detect in a clean machine.

5. What is the right tire pressure for your machine?

Because the tire pressure differs per machine and per situation, this issue is sometimes taken too lightly. Nonetheless, there is an important rule: make sure that the tire pressure is the same in the left and right wheels. A soft tire has a different circumference than a hard tire, which may cause a difference in rotation speed between the wheels.

The differential will suffer if the left wheel is turning faster than the right wheel. This may lead to a broken differential within six months, resulting in thousands of euros in repair costs. It is for this reason that the maximum tolerance of the difference in wheel circumference is 5%.

Also note the tire profile. For the same reason as above, the maximum deviation allowed between left and right is 3.5%.
